In her works, she explores themes of national identity, historical memory, and gender. The topic of Ukrainian culture and culture in general is familiar to the writer. In the 1990s, she even taught Ukrainian studies at three universities in the United States: the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Pittsburgh, and Harvard University.
